This day in 1969 man set foot on the moon for the first time. We’ve gone back, but not recently. There are a lot of people that think the moon landing was faked. I’m not one of them. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good conspiracy theory, but I’m gonna side with what I’ve been told this time around. Mostly because I think that if I posted it was faked I’m afraid Buzz will show up and punch me in the face. The moon missions were the last big things we did up there. Neil deGrass Tyson (@neiltyson) tweeted today:

I think nationally that’s probably true. It’s a shame that we don’t really do much with space these days. We’re going up there once in a while and we take a lot of pictures, but have no big plans it seems. Let’s land on something. Mars. Maybe an Asteroid. There’s gotta be something up there we can land on. If not, shit let’s go back to the moon. It’s been a while. Maybe start a colony like we’ve done in so many movies. Make that a base for a Mars landing. Just leapfrog our way across the galaxy. I don’t know the logistics or science of any of that. That takes years of schooling or at least minutes of research I’m not willing to do right now.
I don’t know if a landing would have the same impact as it did in 1969, but I think Neil (yeah, we’re on a first name basis), is right. We need to create more positive events in this country. I could get into how little is spent on things that further our society and place in the world (science, research, education, etc.) and how much is spent on war… but this post is a tired, scattered mess as it is. In closing- we’ve landed on the moon! Also, I wish Pluto was still a planet.
